Interview excerpts:

Civic Responsibility

I’m a Wakka Wakka woman, academic, unionist, former public servant and proud grandmother. I’m running for the Senate because I believe we have a responsibility to look after one another and the country that gives us life

Trauma and Abuse

I navigated the treacherous waters of my childhood, immersed in the legacy of 200 years of brutal treatment of my mother’s people that has left its scars deep in our psyche. My parents believed that education was the only way to break through systemic poverty, and found ways to send all my six brothers and sisters to school. As a disempowered people we are vulnerable to exploitation and abuse – in her case, by the Catholic clergy.
