Interview excerpts:
Transformation in perspective
I came to realize there is no enemy, the idea of an enemy is a human myth. If we connect heart to heart, eye to eye, and open our hearts to see each other as human beings, we can relate to each other’s stories, and the idea of a victim no longer exists.
Duality of responsibility and empathy in the practice of healing
The body never really lies. The comfort lies within knowing that even when someone can't tell me they're in pain, their body will always let me know where and when. The fear comes in when you consider yourself responsible for that pain
The importance of listening and storytelling in preserving culture, healing trauma, and fostering resilience
Even the hurt and the trauma is all through listening. My grandmother shared her stories, carrying the cultural trauma, but also the hope for something better. I will continue storytelling, passing on the good and the hardships she endured for us.
