E35: The Soul and Spirit of Leadership w/Miriam Jones and Adam Rumack

Episode 35 of We are Open Circle’s Beyond Listening Podcast saw our hosts Adam Rumack and Miriam Jones talk about experiences of soul and spirit fulfilment in their leadership journeys, and the ways they have transformed these experiences into the creation of immersive retreats in nature.

For the full podcast, check out the episode here.

In this episode, we cover...

  1. Adam and Miriam’s own personal experiences of soul-fulfilling leadership.

  2. Retreat as a place of exploration, open ideas and deeper connection between people and with the nature they inhabit.

  3. The potential of natural surroundings as a location for personal growth.

The next week-long retreat is scheduled for 4 - 11th November in Owyhee River Ranch, Oregon. Find more details, reach out to ask a question or book your place here.

Here are some of the key insights from the conversation...

  • Miriam’s career experiences reshaped her perception of her role in the world.

”I think the biggest lesson I learned in that was, as I responded to the world, it wasn't about fixing or changing the world. It was about playing my part. Any fixing or changing was about me... was about the way I responded to things and how I saw myself. And I think that also influences me in this body of our work and our work with leaders.”

  • The mystery of the animating spirit is what drives us to create, express and engage in life.

“All we can say is that there's some other force that we don't know anything about yet, and that's what animating spirit is. So, even before a vision statement, even before, of course, a mission statement, even before you do anything, even before you can even translate the idea into a breath and call it something, there is this animating spirit. We and many other people around the world are finding many different ways to connect to that force.”

  • The ‘unknown’ is different for all of us! The retreats are designed to explore this on an individual basis.

”That ‘edge’ could be in different places. For some, just actually coming to something like this is an ‘edge’ and actually staying in a cabin is an ‘edge’. For some, it’s going right out into the hills. One of the reasons that we are Open Circle, is that we work with you on what that ‘edge’ is. It isn’t about getting what we think it is. It’s about getting to your ‘edge’ and stepping into the unknown.”

See you next week!
